“The first foreign subsidiary was our Canadian operation, which started in Peterborough, Ontario, and made sophisticated check-out counters,” says Nick Kakarelis, Strategic Business Unit Director at Halton Indoor Climate Systems, Ltd., which entered Canada in 1978. Halton’s LEED Eligible Ventilation Solutions for the food service industry include innovative products which not only meet but often exceed the existing requirements for current energy standards in commercial and institutional kitchens. To this end, its HVAC systems are designed and built to be as energy efficient as possible, improving indoor air quality and often enhancing productivity. These solutions include Capture Jet® Technology – hoods which offer superior performance at low CFM to ventilate commercial cooking operations, offer relative energy savings of a minimum of 25 percent over conventional hoods, and contribute to meeting EAp1 “Minimum Energy Performance” and EAc1 “Optimize Energy Performance” points threshold.

Additionally, Halton provides customers with M.A.R.V.E.L. Demand Control Ventilation, a sophisticated system with smart controls. These controls can be integrated with Jet® Technology hoods to automatically adjust exhaust fan speed and modulate exhaust dampers. Able to be monitored and work with outdoor air, M.A.R.V.E.L. Demand Control Ventilation can work with sensors and other devices, and result in energy savings of up to 50 percent. Halton’s Displacement Ventilation (DV) air delivery system – which contributes to points under EAc1 “Optimize Energy Performance” and EQc2 “Increased Ventilation – offers maximum air distribution effectiveness over traditional mixing systems at lower outdoor air volumes, resulting in increased thermal comfort at less cost.
